Mystery and Wonder

I started adding this tagline to my emails: " . . . they cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end." Ecclesiastes 3:11

Click on the title to read an interesting blog post the inscrutability of God and the inadequacy of science (and religion) to explain everything.

Fred Craddock once said something along these lines: I try not to preach with a tone the sounds like I've gone into heaven and taken polaroids of God.

I'm interested in how my family and friends approach God with his inscrutability in mind. Specifically, how do you consider scientific theories of both evolution and creation as explanations for how the cosmos exists?

I like that quote about the Polaroid. Because yeah, we don't have just a 'snap-shot' of God, we've got something so much better! A living, active, representation of God! His word... and not only that Jesus... and not only THAT His Spirit inside us!

That's like the difference of having a picture of me... or basically having me IN and WITH you all the time. Big difference for sure. :)

And yep... evolution is stupid!

Noel, I didn't mean to communicate that I think evolution is stupid. I'm going to edit my question to see if that helps. I'm not offended at all by your comments, though. I appreciate you chiming in.

What did you think of what the blogger said about the Big Bang biz? Here is an excerpt from his post:

"And the more people explain the Big Bang to me, the more mysterious it is that everything just exploded into existence and started the whole chain reaction that has resulted in us today. Even though I don’t believe in macro-evolution, I find the theory beautiful and fascinating and mysterious in a way that makes me think that sure, God could’ve done it that way!"

Hey Jason, I didn't mean to say anything by "evolution is stupid" other than the fact that it's not something I consider at all no more than I consider the idea of God using aliens to populate the spiritless bodies on earth (Scientology).

Glad you didn't take offense, none was meant. :)

I also could say I don't consider the theory of creation... not at this point at least. It is what happened. God said it's what happened... so what is there to consider?

I find lots of things "beautiful" and "mysterious"... some of which are so far from God and so perverted from His will that I have trashed them along with the rest of my past. Since I don't put much stock in how I feel about something, but what God says about something, the things I count as mysterious and beautiful and WORTH my consideration are the things that God tells me are that way. :)

I believe this is what the speeches of God in the book of Job are trying to tell us. Our best attempts will never be fully capable of explaining God (or pin God into a box that dictates how he providentially governs his world).

Interesting comments. Thanks, Noel and Rex.
